Contraindications

This is a list of precautions and contraindications that may prevent you from receiving a massage due the risks involved. You can still receive a massage if you have some of these conditions, the treatment may just need to be modified to your specific needs. If you have a doctors prescription to receive a massage, please bring that to your treatment. It is your responsibility to inform your massage therapist of any health condition or prescriptions you are taking that may cause you harm if you receive a massage.
Please inform me if you are taking these medications or have any of these these conditions so they can modify your treatment as needed to avoid any harm:
- Anticoagulants (blood thinners)
- Beta Blockers
- Muscle relaxants
- Pace maker
- Joint replacements
- Any acute injury (less than 72 hours)
- Allergies
- Osteoporosis
- Skin cancer
- Anxiety
- Asthma
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Cerebral Palsy
- Hypertension
- Herniated Disc
Conditions that need a Doctor’s prescription:
- Pregnancy
- Cancer
- Weakened or autoimmune system
- Cardio-vascular conditions
- Epilepsy
- Diabetes
- Heart conditions
- Nerve conditions
Conditions that are contraindicated:
- Any condition that is contagious
- Fever
- Being under the influence of alcohol or narcotics
- Hemophilia
- Any acute conditions (within 72 hours of injury)
- Advanced liver, kidney, or respiratory conditions
- Atherosclerosis
Conditions that are locally contraindicated:
- Open sores or wounds
- Fungal skin infections
- Blood clots
- Recent surgery
- Recent burns
- Deep vein thrombosis
- Weakened bones or fractures
- Varicose veins
- Inflammation, including arthritis
- Joint instability or hyper mobility
- Edema
